FIND CONNECTION IN EVERY MOUNTAIN MOMENT.
There’s something timeless about summer adventure in Steamboat. The way the cool alpine air rolls through the Yampa Valley at sunrise. The joy of a winding trail ride. The sound of laughter echoing from the river. Here, surrounded by nature and nurtured by community, families don’t just vacation — they reconnect, recharge, and write new chapters of their story together.
Whether you’re a Steamboat regular or a first-time visitor, these five family-friendly adventures offer the perfect mix of energy, serenity, and memory-making.
1. Float the Yampa River
June through August
There’s no better way to cool down and connect than drifting through downtown Steamboat on an innertube. The Yampa River’s gentle flow makes it safe and fun for kids, teens, and parents alike. Reach out to
The Blue Sky West Tube Shack, pack a picnic and pull over at one of the riverside parks, or simply enjoy the journey. It’s the kind of slow adventure that brings out the joy in everyone.
2. Hike to Fish Creek Falls
Trail open year-round
Just minutes from downtown, this short and scenic hike to
Fish Creek Falls leads to a breathtaking 280-foot waterfall. The trail is stroller-friendly to the lower falls and offers more challenging terrain for older kids or active grandparents who want to continue to the upper falls. It’s the perfect spot for family photos—and a reminder of why Steamboat is called Ski Town USA®, not just for winter, but for wonder year-round.
3. Chase the thrill together
Steamboat Bike Park • June 13 – September 28
For families with a love of adventure, the
Steamboat Bike Park delivers. This world-class park features beginner flow trails and expert descents, complete with jumps, wooden bridges, and alpine views. Ride side-by-side with your teen or cheer them from below – either way, it’s pure adrenaline.
SBT GRVL – Steamboat Gravel Ride • June 26–29
This world-class cycling event brings together riders from around the globe for routes that cut through some of Routt County’s most awe-inspiring backdrops. While the official
SBT GRVL event is geared toward serious cyclists, the excitement in town — and the beautiful gravel routes around it — offer inspiration for casual family rides and training rides alike.
The Core Trail • Open all summer
Bring your bikes or rent them in town and ride Steamboat’s famous
Core Trail. Spanning 7.5 miles along the Yampa River, the trail weaves through parks, wildflower meadows, and local hangouts. Stop for ice cream at Mountain Tap Brewery or visit the Yampa River Botanic Park for a dose of natural beauty and quiet reflection. It’s low effort, high reward—and perfect for riders of all ages.
“From beginner to some of Colorado’s most challenging single-track, to endless gravel and road riding, it’s no surprise that Steamboat is known as Bike Town USA.” – Kerry Shea
4. Soak together at Strawberry Park Hot Springs
Reservations recommended.
Nestled in a secluded canyon,
Strawberry Park Hot Springs is one of Colorado’s most magical natural wonders. Soak in warm, mineral-rich pools surrounded by pines and aspen, while kids splash in the shallow sections and elders relax under the stars. It’s rustic, rejuvenating, and a cherished Steamboat tradition.
5. Toast to golden sunset
Sunset Happy Hour • May 29 – September 29
Cap off the day with one of Steamboat’s most iconic summer experiences. Ride the scenic Steamboat gondola to the top of Mount Werner, where
Sunset Happy Hour offers live music, family-friendly energy, and unforgettable views of the Yampa Valley. Sip a local craft cocktail, share appetizers, and let the golden-hour magic wash over your family.
